In a “73 Questions” interview with Vogue, Nyong’o was asked what she usually likes to eat for breakfast. While many people might say they enjoy eggs, granola, pancakes, or even cereal for breakfast, Nyong’o’s answer was much lighter. She said she usually eats, “Plantain, sweet potato, blueberries, that kind of thing.” Her choice of breakfast foods likely reflects the countries in which she grew up.
Though Nyong’o now lives in Brooklyn according to Vogue, she was born in Mexico City while her parents were Kenyan political exiles (via Biography). They were later able to return to Kenya where Nyong’o spent much of her childhood. However, she did tell Vogue that she moved back to Mexico alone when she was 16. According to Biography, her parents wanted her to learn Spanish there.
The fresh produce Nyong’o listed is certainly a lighter way to start the day. If only she had given details on how she likes her plantains and sweet potatoes prepared.
