Transformation of the Day: JoJo lost 56+ pounds. As her 40th birthday approached, she decided that she wanted to step into her 40s in a new way. She also wanted to be a healthy mom for her four daughters. Two of the actions she took were adopting a plant-based eating style based around eating right for her blood type and adding weight training to her workout routine.

What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I was 39 years old, weighed 261 pounds, and my birthday was coming up soon. I just didn’t want to hit 40 years old being so heavy. I also wanted to be around for my four beautiful daughters.

What inspires me is how much I have learned to love myself during this process and seeing the results. (I am from the Caribbean island of Dominica 🇩🇲, but for the last 12 years, I’ve resided on the beautiful island of Anguilla.)

When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey on October 9, 2019, and never looked back! (I’m one year, eight months in.) I went down to 197 pounds, and I started lifting in July 2020. Now I weigh 205 pounds, and I’m 41 years old. I am full of confidence and happier than I have ever been!

How did you change your eating habits?
Changing my eating habits wasn’t that difficult because I wanted a change. I made up my mind and stuck to it. I cut out processed sugars, flour, meat, juice, alcohol, and processed food along with the foods that weren’t suitable for my blood type. So I decided to do a plant-based diet along with eating for my blood type.

What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I started doing CrossFit training and cardio from October 2019 to July 2020, 4 days a week. Then, in August 2020, I started weight lifting and working out seven times a week. My current workout routine includes two sessions of cardio and five sessions of weight lifting, which is all done Monday to Friday.

What is your height?
I am 5 feet, 7 inches tall.

Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
Weight loss surgery was not part of my journey.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I have learned so far is how POWERFUL the mind is! With a positive mindset, we can achieve anything!

What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
My advice for women who want to lose weight is to love yourself enough to make that change because it is worth it!
